The end of the traditional job ad?

One innovative US-company has started a ‘job ad revolution’. They no longer support the standardised ad that goes into newspapers or the often callous rejection letters that companies send out to unsuccessful candidates.

This company is the Las Vegas based e-commerce seller Zappos which is rattling the recruitment process by vowing never to post another job ad again according to a LinkedIn Post of the company’s recruitment consultant Stacy Donovan Zapar.

“I'm happy to announce that Zappos has launched a brand new careers site and officially turned off job postings,” she wrote in a blog post. “In preparation for this day, we've built a brand new ‘Inside Zappos’ presence on social media over the past couple of months on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest.” She explains that the company has used these social channels to share its company culture, people, campus, events, the way they do business as well as to get to know the people who might like to work for them someday. “We've also created an exciting new Zappos Insider program where people can sign up, stay in touch, talk to real people with real names and real faces, get to know us and allow us to get to know them,” she writes.

These Insiders are people who might like to work for Zappos at some point in the future. Therefore they want to stand out, be heard, get updates, have access to their team members, join in events and have two-way conversations according to Zapar.

By doing this their recruiters can stop reviewing applications all day and sending countless sign-off emails, but focus on proactive sourcing instead. That way “we know exactly who we want to interview once a position becomes available,” says Zapar.

Zappos has been known for a positive company culture for a long time. CEO Tony Hsieh company mission is "delivering happiness" to his more than 1,300 employees.
