Interview tips from a leading business school

The University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business has published a very useful video blog with Admissions Dean Sara Neher, who shares some helpful advice on how to conduct an interview at a business school.

We’ve summarised the main points for you but make sure to click the video blog as well:

Tip 1 – The interview begins before the interview.
Make sure you prepare as well as possible, pay attention on how you set up the interview and greet your interviewer in a professional and friendly way. Show some enthusiasm!

Tip 2 – During the interview: Follow the “CAR”-method.
When answering questions like “Tell me about a time when you overcame an obstacle?” follow the “CAR”-method. “CAR” stands for context, action and result – so explain the situation you’re talking about, tell what your action and reaction to it were and showcase the result that came out at the end.

Tip 3 – Finish the interview by asking a question yourself
Don’t ask anything that could be found on the website – but more along the line of what do you like best working here or living in this environment or what’s the five year plan or vision of this organisation.
