References – Letters of Recommendation

MBA applications generally ask for letters of recommendation. These letters typically come from an applicant’s immediate boss, supervisor or someone who has worked with the applicant like a client or investor. Schools do put a great deal of weight on these recommendations as they allow an insight into someone’s performance. This means prospective students need to allow enough time when asking for a recommendation, need to ideally address several parties and take the time to brief the writer about their MBA decisions, career plans afterwards as well as on what they focus in their application. It can be worthwhile sharing information about the essays with the recommendation writers for example and it also pays off to remind them of past achievements and career steps. It is also important to keep up the line of communication with these writers from sending a personal thankyou note afterwards to keeping them informed about the progress of the application as students might need more letters if the first application isn’t successful.
