HEC Paris and IE Business School top FT’s European ranking

HEC Paris (France) and IE Business School (Spain) are the joint winners of the 2013 Financial Times European Business School ranking. The newspaper ranked the best 75 business schools in Europe and evaluated the business schools themselves rather than individual programmes.

The paper explained its decision to award the top spot to both business schools with their excellent achievements across all FT rankings. According to FT, HEC Paris came first for customised education, second for open-enrolment programmes, third for EMBAs with its joint programme Trium and fourth for its masters in management. “IE lost one or two places in some rankings but scored highly enough to retain the top spot it gained last year, in particular being ranked fourth for its MBA and fifth for its masters in management,” the paper explained.

London Business School ranked third, followed by the Spanish Esade Business School, Insead and Iese Business School (Spain). Switzerland’s University of St.Gallen, Italy’s SDA Bocconi, IMD (Switzerland) and Rotterdam School of Management (Netherlands) were also placed in the top ten.

The Financial Times also made special mention of a handful of other schools that registered strong performances this year. These included France’s Edhec, which climbed eight places to 17th due to its participation in both MBA and EMBA rankings. The Netherlands’ TiasNimbas ranked 20th with the help of a top 100 MBA programme according to FT and Germany’s HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management rose to 23rd place after entering the top 100 EMBA programmes.
